Devil’s Land | Paranormal Story

Paranormal Story | Hüseyin, a shepherd in the highlands, recounts the terrifying night he spent in the forbidden valley, facing a supernatural attack and an unexpected rescue. A true paranormal event.

Hello brother, my name is Hüseyin. I’m a 22-year-old young man living in Istanbul. I want to share an incident that happened to me personally two years ago.

Back then, I was working as a shepherd in the village. In our village, people go up to the highland pastures (yayla) in the summer and stay there for a month and a half. The women, children, and shepherds of the village stay in the highlands, while the older men and young men stay in the village; they harvest grass and hay in the fields for the winter. Since I was a shepherd at that time, I stayed in the highlands. Shepherding in the highlands is tough; you graze the sheep 24 hours a day and never leave their side. We bring the sheep into the highland settlement twice a day: for an hour and a half at noon and for an hour in the afternoon. During that time, the village women milk the sheep. Then the shepherds take the sheep back to the mountains and graze them until noon the next day.

Near us, there’s a valley called “Şeytanın Toprağı” (Devil’s Land). Surprisingly, no grass ever grows in that valley; it’s bone-dry and desolate. You can’t even find an ant there. The elders always warn the shepherds not to go there.

One day, I was near that valley. My sheep had finished grazing and had lain down very close to it. I didn’t want to spend the night there, but no matter what I did, my sheep wouldn’t budge. Shepherds know this: if sheep don’t want to move, you can never force them from one place to another. Despite doing everything I could, I couldn’t get the sheep moving. Eventually, I got fed up and sat down, cursing in frustration. There was nothing to do; I had to spend the night there.

I took my donkey near the valley and unloaded the supplies from its back. My donkey was very restless. My dogs were also whining softly as if begging and circling around me. I thought they were hungry, so I soaked some bread and gave it to them, but the dogs didn’t even approach the bread. Angrily, I said, “Do whatever you want!” made my tea, and ate my meal. I turned on the radio and was enjoying my tea and tobacco, looking around.

As it got dark, I noticed something strange. The moonlight faintly illuminated the surroundings, but the area of the valley remained completely dark. It looked as if that side was the end of the world. A slight shiver went down my spine. At that moment, my dogs suddenly stood up, pricked up their ears towards the valley, and started pacing back and forth. “Did a wolf come?” I wondered, stood up, and started shining my flashlight in that direction. However, when I shone the light there, it surprisingly disappeared. How can I explain it? It was as if I were shining a light into an endless darkness; the beam just vanished. I tried getting a bit closer, loaded my shotgun (saçma), and went towards that direction. I sat down between the sheep and the valley and started waiting.

I had just dozed off lightly when suddenly something hard hit my head so forcefully that I collapsed on the spot. I immediately got up; I couldn’t find my shotgun or my flashlight. I started looking around. Oh my God, my sheep were gone! It was as if they had vanished. My head was throbbing so much I couldn’t even see the ground beneath my feet. Looking around, I saw my sheep gathered quite far away. Impossible! I was right in the middle of the valley! How did I get here?

Terrified, I let out a huge scream, but despite shouting with all my might, my voice came out very weak. So much so that the voice of a person speaking normally was louder than my scream. Suddenly, I started hearing footsteps, like thousands of sheep running towards me. I immediately threw myself to the ground, put my head between my hands, and waited. I was so scared I was crying, saying “Allah, Allah!”

Suddenly, a voice I heard said, “There is no God here! There is only darkness here!” I looked around. “Who are you? What do you want from me?” I shouted, and it spoke again: “I am a God! You piece of mud! No one can find you here!” it said. It was such a disgusting voice that even telling you now gives me goosebumps.

Suddenly, a hand grabbed my feet and started dragging me. I looked at my feet; I couldn’t see anything. I don’t know what kind of hand it was, but the feeling was as if it gripped me from my ankles up to my knees, and it burned like fire. As I was being dragged on the ground, I was crying and begging. Suddenly, it lifted me into the air. Around me were thousands of whispers, laughs, and screams. I thought to myself, “Oh God, so this is how I die.” Then suddenly, the whispers stopped. The hand that lifted me let go, and I fell to the ground. Luckily, I wasn’t too high up.

As soon as I hit the ground, the screams reached a deafening level. My head was spinning. Just then, five white horsemen galloped into the valley towards me. Everywhere the horses passed lit up. I saw something then, oh my God! In these illuminated areas, there were hundreds of black creatures! May God never let me see them again! They were pitch black, hairy, and their eyes were like fire. Their horns were like ram’s horns but bright yellow. Their teeth were sharp, and their heads and feet were backward. They started fleeing, screaming. Just then, there was such a blast of light that I collapsed where I stood.

When I opened my eyes, I was inside a house in the highland pasture, and my whole body ached. I had trouble getting up. Soon, two people entered; one was the imam, the other was Uncle Sadık. Uncle Sadık was a villager I liked very much, the one who always warned me, “Don’t go that way.” Uncle Sadık asked, “How are you, son?” I was still scared, and the events of the night were flashing before my eyes like a movie reel. I suddenly started trembling. The imam immediately began reciting verses from the Quran. My tongue was tied; I couldn’t speak. They gave me water, but I couldn’t speak at all for a long time.

I quit shepherding that day and decided never to be a shepherd again. It took six months for my speech to return. About a year and a half later, I ran into Uncle Sadık, and he was very happy to see me. We sat down and started talking. I asked Uncle Sadık, “What happened that day? How did you find me?” Uncle Sadık began to explain:

“Look, son, that day in my dream, I saw you crying and shouting incessantly in the darkness. I woke up suddenly and said, ‘May it be for the best, God willing,’ and went outside. I noticed something; your shepherding stick was at the door, and it was bloody! I immediately alerted the villagers. The imam, the village headman (muhtar), and the villagers got on the tractor and came towards the highlands. We went to the houses in the pasture and found out which direction you had taken the sheep. Then we drove the tractor towards the valley at full speed. We saw that your sheep were there, and the dogs were barking like crazy. We approached the sheep but couldn’t find you. The imam suddenly shouted, ‘Stop!’ We all looked at the imam. The imam was looking angrily into the valley and told us, ‘They’ve taken him, they’re going to kill him!’ He took something out from under his robe and started reading. At that moment, strange things were happening in the valley; we were all astonished. There was a blast of white light inside the valley. We all closed our eyes. A little later, we saw you walking out of the darkness. We took you and immediately brought you home. A few villagers brought the sheep. Look, son, I think Muslim Jinn informed me about your situation.”

I listened in astonishment. How had I walked out of there? I don’t remember at all. Since that day, I pray to Allah every day, perform my five daily prayers, and give thanks. May Allah protect us from the evil of those beings, God willing. May God protect you.
