Ancient esoteric traditions, particularly the sciences of Havas, offer age-old rituals, prayers, and formulas for such spiritual needs. One of the most well-known and reportedly experienced of these formulas involves “prayers recited over black pepper.” In this article, you will discover not just a ritual, but also the spiritual subtleties behind this practice, along with the complete texts and meanings of the sacred verses to be recited. Let us embark on this spiritual journey together.
The Symbolism in Ancient Sciences: Why Black Pepper, a Candle, or Salt?
In the esoteric sciences, it is believed that every material used has a symbolic meaning and an energetic equivalent. The sharp scent and the instantaneous heat created when black pepper is burned represent the desire for the effect to be “swift and fiery.” The intention is that just as the pepper burns in the fire, the heart of the desired person should also “burn” with love and longing.
Similarly, a candle, while slowly consuming itself, illuminates and warms its surroundings. This carries the symbolism of love working patiently, gradually warming and enlightening the heart of the other person. Salt, known for its purifying and protective properties, is used with the intention of cleansing the coldness and negative energies between individuals. When combined with a pure intention and the correct procedure, these practices are believed to become potent spiritual keys.
The Love and Affection Ritual Over 41 Peppercorns
This practice is one of the most famous love and attraction rituals found in classic esoteric texts. For the ritual to be effective, the purity of one’s intention and strict adherence to the steps are considered essential.
Required Steps and The Power of Intention
According to the tradition, one who wishes to perform this ritual should follow these steps:
- Choose the Right Time: Wake up at an hour associated with love and affection (e.g., the hour of Venus or Jupiter) or in the pre-dawn hours of a Friday or Monday night. The tranquility of the night is most suitable for spiritual concentration.
- Spiritual and Physical Cleansing: Perform a proper ablution (Wudu). This is both a physical and spiritual purification.
- Prayer for Need (Salat al-Hajah): Perform a two-rak’ah prayer for the sake of Allah, with the intention of asking for your need to be fulfilled. After the prayer, ask God with all your heart for your intention to be realized through virtuous means.
- Dhikr (Remembrance): Following the prayer, to strengthen the spiritual atmosphere, recite the following: 7 times Istighfar (seeking forgiveness), 7 times Surah Al-Fatiha, and 7 times Surah Al-Ikhlas.
- The Intention (Niyyah): With hands raised to the sky, state your intention in a clear and sincere manner: “O Lord! Fill the heart, soul, mind, and all limbs of [name of the person and their mother’s name] with love, passion, and affection for me. May they not endure a moment without me, and may their heart burn with longing for me.”
- Recitation and Burning: After making your intention, take 41 whole peppercorns and recite the verses provided below over them exactly 41 times. After each recitation, blow your breath onto the peppercorns. When the recitation is complete, say the following words: “O Lord, just as this fire burns this pepper, burn the heart of [person’s name] with my love and longing, and warm them to me.” Afterwards, burn these peppercorns in a clean fire (such as on hot coals).
The Verses to be Recited
The verses used in this ritual are compiled from some of the most powerful verses in the Holy Qur’an related to love and attachment.

Meaning
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful. And [yet], among the people are those who take other than Allah as equals [to Him]. They love them as they [should] love Allah. But those who believe are stronger in love for Allah. And if only they who have wronged would consider, when they see the punishment, that all power belongs to Allah. (Excerpt from The Holy Qur’an, Surah Al-Baqarah, 2:165)

Beautified for people is the love of that which they desire – of women and sons, heaped-up sums of gold and silver, fine branded horses, and cattle and tilled land. That is the enjoyment of worldly life, but Allah has with Him the best return. (The Holy Qur’an, Surah Aal-i-Imran, 3:14)

Meaning
And I bestowed upon you love from Me that you would be brought up under My eye. (Excerpt from The Holy Qur’an, Surah Taha, 20:39)
The Sugar Application for Reconciling Spouses and Families
The same verses can also be used for reconciling spouses, family members, or friends who are estranged or in severe disagreement. In this case, the method differs slightly:
- Intention: The intention is made as, “to reconcile the relationship between [person A] and [person B], to warm their hearts to one another, and to place between them a love like that of Yusuf and Zulaikha.”
- Material: Instead of black pepper, sugar, Turkish delight, or any sweet food item is used.
- Application: The verses provided above are recited 41 times over this sweet food.
- Serving: This enchanted sweet is then served to the people intended for reconciliation without their knowledge (e.g., in their tea, as part of a dessert, etc.). The symbolism of the sweet is the desire for their hearts and their relationship to become “sweet,” just as their mouths are sweetened.
The Virtue of Carrying These Verses
Scholars of the esoteric sciences state that writing these blessed verses and carrying them on one’s person, after folding them in the proper manner, also has many virtues. It is narrated that whoever carries these verses will appear charming and beloved in the eyes of others and will attract their love, respect, and admiration.
Final Word
It must not be forgotten that all prayers, rituals, and spiritual formulas are merely “means.” The one who creates the effect, warms the hearts, and answers the prayers is Allah, the Almighty, alone. The fundamental principle when resorting to such practices is that the intention must be pure, not used for forbidden or malicious purposes, and that one must be content with the will of God, whatever the outcome. May all the virtuous prayers of your heart be answered.
