How to Perform the Hacet Prayer?
The Hacet prayer is recommended to be performed especially after the Isha (night) prayer. A person can perform either four or twelve rak’ahs (units of prayer) depending on their wish. After completing the prayer, one praises Allah, sends salutations upon Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), and then recites the Hacet supplication, presenting their request to Allah.
The procedure for performing the Hacet prayer is as follows:
- If performed as four rak’ahs:
- In the first rak’ah: Recite Surah Al-Fatiha followed by Ayat-ul-Kursi three times.
- In the remaining three rak’ahs: Recite Surah Al-Fatiha followed by Surah Al-Ikhlas, Surah Al-Falaq, and Surah An-Nas, respectively.
- If performed as twelve rak’ahs:
- After Surah Al-Fatiha, any other desired surah may be recited in each rak’ah.
After completing the prayer, the Hacet supplication mentioned in hadiths is recited, and one turns to Allah with personal prayers from the heart.

Meaning:
“O Allah, I ask You for the success of those who are rightly guided, the deeds of those who possess certainty, the sincere counsel of those who repent, the determination of those who are patient, the earnestness of those who fear You, the desire of those who seek You, the devotion of those who practice piety, and the understanding of those who possess knowledge so that I may fear You as I should. O Allah, grant me such a fear that prevents me from disobeying You so that I perform acts of obedience through which I deserve Your pleasure. Allow me to sincerely repent out of fear of You. Let me offer sincere advice purely for Your love. Let me rely upon You in all matters with good expectations of You. Glory be to the Creator of light.”
