Permission in the Knowledge of Havas
The knowledge of Havas involves reciting specific prayers, verses, and sacred evrad in certain ways to create spiritual effects. A crucial condition for effective application of this knowledge is obtaining permission from an experienced and authorized spiritual master.
Greater Permission in Havas
There are two types of permissions in Havas. The first and more potent type, known as the “Greater Permission,” is directly acquired from a master. Actions performed with this permission undoubtedly achieve their intended spiritual impact, as this authorization is considered a link in a spiritual chain that transfers a sacred authority from the master to the disciple.
Islamic sources describe this permission as a form of spiritual license, connecting knowledge and practice, facilitating the acceptance of prayers (see Imam al-Ghazali, Ihya Ulum al-Din; Ibn Khaldun, Al-Muqaddimah).
Lesser Permission in Havas
If obtaining direct permission from a spiritual master is impossible, one can perform spiritual practices independently through a method known as the “Lesser Permission.” The following steps outline this process:
Steps for Acquiring Lesser Permission
- Perform ablution (wudu) and pray two units (rakats) of the Prayer of Need (Salat al-Hajah).
- After completing the prayer, recite the following verses and supplications:
Verses and Supplications to be Recited
Begin with:

Recite Surah Al-Fatiha once, and Surah Al-Ikhlas three times, dedicating their rewards to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
Then Recite the Following Verses and Supplications:

Final Thoughts
Permission in Havas significantly enhances the spiritual effectiveness of prayers and verses. Greater Permission involves spiritual authorization from a master, while Lesser Permission demonstrates sincere individual devotion. By Allah’s grace, both methods lead to successful spiritual practices.
