Prayer for a Male Child
According to a hadith, if a person places their hand on their pregnant wife’s stomach and recites this prayer, it is narrated that the child will be a boy.

- Narrated by Ibn Abbas (r.a.), the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) said: “Whoever learns that his wife is pregnant, places his hand on her stomach, and recites this prayer, Allah will grant him a righteous male child.” (Tabarani, Al-Mu’jam Al-Awsat: 9801)
- Narrated by Abu Huraira (r.a.), the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said: “Whoever sincerely asks Allah for a righteous child and prays, Allah will answer his supplication.” (Ibn Majah, Nikah: 8)
Prayer for a Male Child 1
Arabic Text:
اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْنَا مِنْ لَدُنْكَ ذُرِّيَّةً طَيِّبَةً مُطِيعَةً اللَّهُمَّ إِنْ تَرْزُقْنِي مِنْ هَذِهِ الْوَقْعَةِ وَلَدًا أُسَمِّيهِ مُحَمَّدًا
Transliteration:
Allahümmej‘alnâ min ledünke zürriyyeten tayyibeten mütıy’aten. Allahümme in terzuknî min hâzihil vak’ati veleden üsemmiyhi Muhammeden.
Meaning:
“O Allah! Grant us from Your presence a pure and obedient offspring. O Allah! If You bless us with a child from this union, I will name him Muhammad.”

- The Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) said: “Whoever places his hand on his pregnant wife’s stomach and recites this prayer, Allah will bless him with a male child.” (Daylami, Al-Firdaus: 5133)
Arabic Text:
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الْأَحَدِ الصَّمَدِ الَّذِي لَمْ يَلِدْ وَلَمْ يُولَدْ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي سَمَّيْتُ مَا فِي هَذَا الْبَطْنِ مُحَمَّدًا صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ
Transliteration:
Bismillâhi ehadis samedillezî lem yelid ve lem yuled. Allahümme innî semmeytü mâ fi hâzihil batni Muhammeden sallâllahü aleyhi ve selleme.
Meaning:
“In the name of Allah, the One, the Eternal Refuge, who neither begets nor is born. O Allah, I name what is in this womb Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him.”
Important Note
The meanings of these prayers indicate that if Allah grants a male child, the parents pledge to name him Muhammad. If the prayer is answered and the parents are blessed with a son, they should honor this commitment by naming him Muhammad or including Muhammad as part of his name.
